Culture Events in August

 

Thanks to the musical quartet “The Cavern Beatles”, which is one of the most precise cover music band of the world famous “The Beatles”, the audience will have an opportunity to experience the feel of the 60’s and the thing that could no more be possible in nowadays – to be a part of nearly “The Beatles” concert. 

 

At the concert dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the outstanding Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the Russian NW Symphony Orchestra, uniting one of the best concert masters and soloists of NW Russian symphony orchestras, will perform Symphony No.6 “Pathetique” (“Pathetic”) and the Concerto No.1 for Piano and Orchestra by P. Tchaikovsky.

 

In the special series of the film and music evenings – an Oscar award winning film “Searching for Sugar Man” produced by Malik Bendjelloul, that tells the story about the musician Sixto Rodriguez. A half an hour before the screening (starting at 21.30), attendants of the event will have an opportunity to enjoy jazz performance. In case of bad weather conditions, the event will be held in the lobby of the third floor. Film in original language with subtitles in Latvian.

 

In the special series of the film and music evenings – a movie, amazing film-story about Margaret Thatcher with Meryl Streep in the leading role – “The Iron Lady”. Film Director – Phyllida Lloyd. In case of bad weather conditions, the event will take a place in the lobby of the third floor. Film in English with subtitles in Latvian.

 

The fourth year in the row, a place will take the project ‘’Miss and Mister Rezekne’’. During the closing ceremony of the event, jury will crown the most beautiful couple of the city. The host of the competition – Māris Grigalis. The audience will be entertained with performances of the well-known Latvian musicians, dancers, and cirque artists, as well as more than five presentations of the contestants. 

 

From August 12 to 16, for the third time in Rezekne, a place will take the International Film Festival OPEN PLACE. The first part of the opening concert will present the movie style concert performance by the Latgalian ethno rock music band „Laimas Muzykanti”. However, the second part of the event will introduce to the jury, film program and the film producers, as well as offer the musical and artistic performances of the film actors.

 

In the meeting with film and theatre actors of the International Film Festival “Open Place” will participate: Ivars Kalniņš, Elizaveta Arzamasova, Nataļya Krachkovskaya, Tatiana Abramova, Din Fan and Vitaly Kisj. The audience will have an opportunity to enjoy conversations, performances of the actors and film fragments.

 

Maxim Averin is one of the leading actors of the “Satirikon”, the Moscow Theatre named after Arkady Raikin, and the film industry of Russia. During the solo performance “Everything Starts With Love...” the audience will be delighted with poetry and prose, fragments from films, theatre performances and songs, as well as the conversations.

In the special series of the film and music evenings – a comedy “The Hundred-Foot Journey”, directed by Lasse Halstrem. Starring: Helen Mirren, Charlotte Le Bon, Manish Dayal and others. On Fridays, a half an hour before the screening (starting at 21.30), attendants of the event will have an opportunity to enjoy jazz performance. In case of bad weather conditions, the event will be held in the lobby of the third floor. Film in English with Latvian subtitles.

 

In the concert will participate the actor Ivars Kalniņš, actress Veronika Plotņikova, singer, musician and composer Andris Ābelīte, “Film Orchestra” under the lead of the pianist Juris Kristons and others. The audience of the concert will be led through the times from the silent movies, all the way to the nowadays, including in the program the golden melodies of Latvian, Italian, French, and Russian films.

 

In the special series of the film and music evenings – a romantic musical comedy “Begin Again” by Filida Loide. Starring Keira Naitly, Mork Rufalo and the soloists of the music band „Maroon 5“ – Adam Levin. In case of bad weather conditions, the event will take a place in the lobby of the third floor. Film in English with Latvian subtitles.

 

The award ceremony of the film festival and the concert with the artistic and creative interpretations by Natalia Bochkarjova, Ivan Zamotajev, Eduard Shulzhevsky, Valery Yeremenko and Anna Bolshova. The hosts of the ceremony - actors Dita Lūriņa and Andris Bulis.  

 

An open-air film screening with a live music – the music group „Caspervek” (Spain). „Caspervek” is a Spanish instrumental music group, especially interested in the uniting process of the music and visual arts. The main activity has always been connected with the preservation of the silent film heritage and composing process of the new soundtracks.

 

The actors of Daile Theatre Jānis Paukštello and Inita Dzelme will perform new, as well as beloved love poetry of Jānis Peters vestured in the music of Gaitis Lazdāns. Participating: children ensemble “Cielaviņa” from Ludza, Gaitis Lazdāns (keyboards, percussion), Artūrs Palkēvičs (keyboards, guitar), Zintis Žvarts (saxophone), Aivars Vīksna (bass), Edgars Raila (drums, marimba), as well as the small group of the youth choir “Balsis” under the lead of Ints Teterovskis. Directed by Valdis Lūriņš. 

 

The presentation concert of the new music album „Ašņa dasys“ by Latvian music industry’s recognized Latgalian music project „Kapļi“.

 

In the special series of the film and music evenings – a tragicomedy „Then It`s Hi! Hi! Hee!” by Latvian film directors Māris Putniņš and Jānis Cimmermanis participating the actors of Latvian golden films and theatre. In case of bad weather conditions, the event will be held in the lobby of the third floor.

 

The series of Latvian animation films for children by Roze Stiebra. “The Unusual Rigans“, “Pocket“, “Brer Rabbit and Boss Lion“, “Adventures of the Sausage“ and other, will cheer up both, an older, as well as a younger audience.

 

The student of the Anthropology Master’s studies, Norie Rsuruta, comes from Japan to Latvia, in order to accomplish the research and write a Master’s thesis about the Suiti region. Here she meets one of the oldest women of the Suiti community – Ruch – a person who does not know even a word in English, however, knows how to sing. Norie learns Latvian and acquires many songs. Directed by Ināra Kolmane.

 

An autobiographical documental detective story, revealing film director’s searches and follow up on the happenings of the 90`s. This is the time when her father – a president of a flat broke bank – disappeared without a trace. He has been on the lists of the “Interpol” for sixteen years. No success. However, the news coming from “Interpol”, reveals the information about the person who has entered the psychiatric clinic in Kuala Lumpur by using the personal data of a missing man. 

 

In the special series of the film and music evenings – a drama "Blue Jasmine", directed my Woody Allen. Half an hour before the film screening (starting at 21.30), attendants will have an opportunity to enjoy the performance of jazz musicians. In case of bad weather conditions, the event will take a place in the lobby of the third floor.

 

In the special series of the film and music evenings – the award winning drama “Mother, I Love You” by Latvian film director Jānis Nords. In case of bad weather conditions, the event will take a place in the lobby of the third floor.

 

“NAF 007” or “searching the elusive” with the orchestra of the Latvian National Armed Forces Headquarters, Valters Pūce and Ralfs Eilands, will be an excellent Agent 007 themed musical adventure for the entire family.

 

From August 1 to 31, in the lobby of the first floor of the Embassy of Latgale GORS, will be displayed an art photo exhibition “Television. We are One of You”. The photography taken by Valts Kleins capture 14 outstanding personalities of Latvian Television (LTV), who are symbolizing different times, still, united values of the public media, as well as it’s inseparable connection with the nation and the country.
